Reaction time varies with hair type, prior chemical dyes, and whether shampoos with silicones were used.

Two-phase dyeing for grey hair

The resulting shade depends on the colour of your hair before you apply the henna. If you apply henna to hair that’s already dyed, the results can differ from dyeing on grey hair. Therefore, two-phase dyeing is recommended for grey hair (pre-pigmentation colour replaces peroxide).

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about VOONO natural herbal hair colours.

How quickly does the herbal hair colour wash out?

It begins to wash out within about four weeks after the first colouring, but it never disappears completely. With regular applications the colour lasts longer and you’ll usually only need to colour the roots. Refresh the full length roughly once every three months.

How do herbal hair colours work?

Herbal colours coat the hair shaft, building up a translucent layer. This is different to chemical colours, which penetrate deep into the hair structure.

My hair is dyed with chemical colour — may I use henna?

Yes. Leave a 2–3 week gap after your last chemical colouring. We also recommend avoiding products with silicones and parabens (shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, etc.).

I’m blonde and want to go brown — what should I do?

First warm the tone slightly using the Hair of Gauri mask (apply 45 minutes over the full length) to move from strawberry to wheat-blonde. Then apply your chosen brown shade. Skipping these steps can push very light hair towards green.

What happens if I put Light Brown on blonde hair?

Hair may turn reddish, or in some cases green. We don’t recommend using Light Brown directly on blonde hair.

If I want to go back to chemical hair colouring, can I?

Yes — you can return to chemical colouring at any time.

Can the herbal colour be lightened with peroxide?

For red and copper hues, yes — peroxide can be used. For brown and black shades, use a vitamin C wash bath instead of peroxide (peroxide can push these tones green).

What is different about VOONO?

VOONO is a Czech professional brand with responsive customer care. Our colours and hair products use high-quality, fresh herbs.

Why is VOONO ethical?

We do not test on animals. VOONO also supports local communities in Rajasthan — your purchase helps families with fewer financial opportunities.

What should I never do?

Do not apply pure indigo to light or grey hair — it can produce unwanted grey/green tones. We also don’t recommend applying the darkest shades to blonde hair (Indigo, Soft Black, Dark Brown — up to 90% may turn green). Indigo is best for naturally dark hair or when used in two-step combinations (e.g., with Soft Black).

Which shampoo and conditioner suit herbal colours?

Use VOONO shampoo and conditioner or any products that are free from silicones and parabens.

What if the colour washes out quickly or stains the neck?

This usually means the procedure wasn’t followed closely or your hair products are incompatible. Even some natural shampoos can interfere with herbal colours. Switch to silicone-free products and the issue should resolve within two weeks. If you need help, contact hello@voono.com.au.

Can VOONO colours be mixed together?

Yes — common combinations include:

  • Light Brown + Copper
  • Copper + Orange
  • Copper + Wine Red
  • Wine Red + Orange
  • Medium Brown + Rose Brown
  • Medium Brown + Dark Brown
  • Soft Black + Dark Brown
  • Soft Black + Indigo
Do you have a colourless henna (nourishing)?

Yes — it’s called Cassia obovata.

Can VOONO colours cover grey hair?

Yes. If you have under 30% grey, one colouring is usually enough. If you have more than 30% grey, first colour the roots with the Pre-pigmentation shade. Then apply your selected colour through the lengths. See the “How-to” section above for full steps.

How often should I dye my hair with henna or herbal colour?

Every second week is fine, but most people refresh around the 4th–5th week (often just the roots). The colours are 100% natural, so frequent colouring won’t harm your health.
